Civic agencies seek 2,000 extra workers
A week has passed since chief minister Sheila Dikshit had asked the civic agencies to work through the nights to complete the pending Games projects, the civic agencies on Friday have given a requirement of nearly 2,000 extra labourers on various pending projects to the government.
The round the clock work on the pending projects will kick start from Monday, pointed government officials. The officials also pointed out that the civic agencies involved in various pending projects have informed the government about the extra-labour. According to a highly-placed source in the government, the pending Barapula Nala flyover project will now have 535 extra labourers to work in the night shifts, while various projects in Connaught Place will have an extra work force of 400 labourers. The officials added that projects in Pahadganj will have extra 200 men to work on night shifts while Lajpat Nagar area projects will see a deployment of 200 labourers and the Games Village will have 350 extra labourers working for night shifts.
Earlier issuing strict warnings that no deviation from the August 31 deadline would be allowed, the chief minister ordered the civic agencies to work 24X7 to finish Games projects. Ms Dikshit had also met Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrashekhar and reportedly apprised him of the measures being taken to expedite the projects. The government had also written to the Delhi police asking for permission to the agencies to work through the night. The Delhi police, after assessing the situation, granted the approval earlier in the week.
