Civil Lines family drugged, robbed
A family of five, including an eight-month-old boy, were drugged and cash and jewellery worth lakhs was allegedly looted from their north Delhi residence on Thursday night.
The incident came to light on Friday morning when the domestic help arrived at the B 11, Ganpati Apartments in Civil Lines area and found the victims, Anil Maheshwari, 56, and his wife Urmila, 54, unconscious in their bedroom. Maheshwari’s son, Manu, 30, his wife Tanisha, 28, and their eight-month-old son Aarav, were found unconscious in another room, The maid alerted RWA president Yogesh Chander Gupta, who made a PCR call at around 11.30 am. The family owns a wall clock manufacturing factory in the Gulabi Bagh area and runs a showroom in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar market.
The victims have been admitted in ICU at Sant Parmanand Hospital and their condition is reported to be critical. “We have sent their vomiting samples for forensic examination to ascertain whether they were drugged or not. So far, their condition remains critical,” medical director of the hospital Sagar Rajagopal said.
The police is also suspecting the involvement of a domestic help Shambu, a native of Bihar, in the incident who has gone missing after the incident.
“The family was probably drugged on Thursday evening and the robbery was carried out throughout the night since every part of the house has been ransacked,” a senior police official said.
