Civil society members to meet citizens
In line with the commitment given by civil society activist Anna Hazare to hold wide-ranging consultations with the public on the Lok Pal Bill, the exercise will begin in the city from Sunday.
Civil society activist Swami Agnivesh would be taking part in a consultation exercise in Narela on Sunday. Similar consultations would take place in Rohini and Shahdara also on Sunday.
The interaction would be a continuous process and the feedback from people would be taken on the drafting of the Lok Pal Bill in which five members from the civic society are taking part along with government representatives, the organisers said.
“This exercise of taking views of people on Lok Pal Bill began at Varanasi and few other places in UP and then in Guwahati and Bengaluru. Anna Hazare will be going to Ahmedabad in this regard,” said one of the organisers from India Against Corruption.
The feedback received from the people in the open public consultation would be deliberated by senior members of India Against Corruption to see what could be taken on the table for the drafting of the Lok Pal Bill.
The Jan Lok Pal Bill drafted by the civil society members would be discussed with the people during the public consultations, the organisers said. The objective of the exercise is to build up a strong campaign simultaneously with the drafting process in a bid to build public pressure on the government for meeting the June 30 deadline for drafting the bill and its early passage in the Parliament.
