Clashes, arson as people protest student’s murder
Angry residents of northwest Delhi’s Sonia Vihar on Tuesday held protest and set on fire the residences of three men allegedly involved in the murder of a Delhi University student.
The police officials said the incident took place at around 9.30 am when several groups of locals started gathering outside the houses of the three accused. The crowd started raising slogans against the accused.
“The angry mob turned violent suddenly and they simultaneously barged into the houses of accused and tried to torch them. They also looted the houses,” said a senior Delhi police official.
Sources said that the mob caught hold of the brother of one of the accused and assaulted him. He was however rescued by the police. “The police had to sent in five companies of reserve police and rapid action force to the spot to control the situation,” the official said. The four accused are still at large.
Twenty-year-old Kamal Singh Rawat was stabbed to death on Monday morning allegedly after a deal for purchasing a motorcycle with an auto sales manager turned sour.
