Class 4 student dies after falling into pit

A class 4 student of an MCD primary school drowned in a rain water filled pit at Kakrola in Najafgarh zone of the corporation on Monday evening. The student had ventured into a complex being used for stacking up building materials and was apparently being used by a private contractor. MCD’s director (primary education) has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident.

According to the MCD, the student, Lalit Kumar, a resident of Kakrola, had ventured into the complex, which is located on a plot of land belonging to the DDA. A visit by the MCD officials revealed that the site, with broken boundary wall, was being used to store various items like bitumen drums, stone dust, kerb stones and other such things, besides a JCB also being there.
Also, water was filled up in many pits at the site and it appeared that Lalit had fallen in one of them. The pit in which the student fell down, measured around eight feet by six feet by five feet, said the MCD officials. Lalit had gone to the spot after attending the second shift of the school.
The incident came a day after the Delhi high court directed the MCD to constitute a task force which will ensure that the safety norms are followed during construction activities in the city.

Aug. 3: The police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posing as a Delhi police constable attached with the Prime Minister security wing. The accused Vikas is a native of Haryana’s Sonepat area.
Vikas was arrested on Singhu border picket in Outer Delhi on Sunday when he approached the police seeking their favour to allow his cousin to carry passengers from the border to Haryana illegally. “He introduced himself as a Delhi police constable and produced an identity card of Delhi police (PM security). Prima facie, the card produced by Vikas appeared to be forged,” DCP (Outer) Chhaya Sharma said.
On interrogation, Vikas revealed that he had worked as a labourer with one Rajpal, a contractor who used to take contracts for maintenance of parks where PM was scheduled to visit.
