CM: DERC to set power tariff
Amid the private power distribution companies (discoms) asking for power tariff hike, the chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday stated that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) would decide on the issue. At the same time power cuts have begun in several areas of the capital as heat conditions intensified in the capital.
The chief minister on Tuesday held deliberations with the power minister Haroon Yusuf to take stock of the summer preparation by the discoms, with power demand crossing 4,423 MW. Mrs Dikshit told reporters that the issue of the power tariff is in the domain of the DERC and the city government has no role to play in it. She further stated that there is no shortage of power in the capital. “We have sufficient power to meet the demand,” she added. However, several areas in the capital reported half-an-hour to an hour of power cuts on Tuesday. The east and north Delhi areas were worst hit as power cuts to the tune of an hour was reported from the areas.
The officials are anticipating the power demand in the capital crossing all time record to touch around 5,100 MW.
