CM to discoms: Curb powercuts
With Delhi reeling under hot and humid conditions and the maximum temperature being recorded at 44.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, chief minister Sheila Dikshit directed the private power distribution companies to pull up their socks and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
The maximum temperature in the city on Tuesday was five notches above normal, while the minimum temperature touched 32.6 degrees, which is the highest of the season. The minimum temperature, which rose by 1.5 degrees from Monday’s 31.1 degrees, was four degrees above normal for this time of the year.
The previous highest minimum temperature of the season was recorded at 31.8 degrees Celsius on June 5.
Ms Dikshit presided over a meeting with chief executive officers of all the three discoms on Tuesday where she stated that the city has enough power to meet the rising demand and government would not take the loadshedding lightly.
The chiefs of the discoms informed the chief minister that powercuts were taking place due to local faults and shutdown of transmission lines to facilitate works related to Commonwealth Games.
Ms Dikshit told the discoms to take prompt action on the complaints of consumers.
“Any casual attitude in attending such complaints will not at all be tolerated,” she told the officials of the discoms.
However, various areas of the city reported powercuts even on Tuesday, a day after the peak demand had touched an all-time high of 4,668 MW on Monday. Several areas in south and east Delhi reported a string of powercuts ranging from two to four hours.
