CM launches new phase of polio drive
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday launched a new phase of pulse polio programme from her residence by administering drops to around 50 children.
“Delhi has become virtually polio-free as no case of polio has been reported since 2010. Our country is at the threshold of becoming polio-free as only one case was reported during 2011. This year, there has been no case of polio till today,” she said while launching the programme on Saturday.
Ms Dikshit said that in Delhi polio drops were being administered as a precautionary measure.
“There have always been an apprehension about polio virus transmission because of migration from other countries and cities. The pulse polio programme is being taken up to overcome such apprehensions,” she said.
Over 25 lakh children would be administered polio drops at 8,200 centres set up in all hospitals, health centres, schools, bus terminus, metro stations, railway stations, mother dairies, airport, DMS booths and religious places on Sunday on “Polio Ravivar”.
