CM wants Singapore-like skill school in city
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said that the Delhi government will set up a world-class skill development institute in Delhi.
The institute will be based on the Institute Of Technical Studies based in Singapore. The announcement came after the CM visited Singapore on Monday.
“Delhi is close to have an agreement on skill development with Singapore. Setting up a similar institute in Delhi will help in optimum development of talent and utilisation of potential and also prove to be a step forward in PM’s skill development mission,” she said.
Mrs Dikshit returned to New Delhi on Wednesday night after a three-day visit to Singapore. She led a seven-member delegation, which included Delhi labour and industries minister Ramakant Goswami, chief secretary P.K. Tripathi, secretary department of training and technical education and her additional secretary Kulanand Joshi.
According to the top officials, a delegation from Singapore is likely to visit Delhi very soon.
“A high-level Singapore delegation will soon visit Delhi to give final touches to the proposed agreement.”
The institute at Singapore has imparted the best skill training to those students who were not showing excellent results in academics and have turned out to be the best in their respective fields after due skill development, resulting in marketing quality products and services and generation of appreciable income and foreign exchange for their country,” said a senior official.
Mrs Dikshit said that her visit was successful and Singapore is keen to ink an agreement on setting up such institute with Delhi government.
