CMO drivers molest woman, arrested
A young woman was allegedly molested in Tilak Marg area on Wednesday evening by two inebriated drivers travelling in chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s pilot car.
The police said the accused, identified as Jagdish and Rajesh, who work as drivers at the chief minister’s office, have been arrested and a case under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) IPC has been registered against them.
The incident took place at around 10.15 pm on Wednesday when the victim, a resident of central Delhi, was waiting to board an autorickshaw.
“Rajesh and Jagdish, who were travelling in a pilot car of Delhi chief minister, halted their vehicle and started blinking the head lights at the victim. The accused then began making indecent gestures towards her. When she ignored them and walked away, the duo offered her a can of beer and later tried to molest her,” the official said.
The police said the victim started screaming for help which caught the attention of passersby and the assailants were nabbed following which a call was made to the police control room.
A team of policemen reached the spot and the two accused were taken to the Tilak Marg police station where a case was registered against them.
“A can of beer was recovered from the vehicle and the accused were taken to a nearby hospital for medical examination where it was confirmed that they had consumed alcohol,” the official said.
Following their arrest, the police informed the chief minister’s office about the matter,
“Since the offence is bailable, the two accused were released on Thursday. We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the matter,” the official said.
