Cold wave conditions, fog continue
The city continued to reel under cold wave conditions with the lowest temperature being recorded at 4.3 degrees Celsius (three degrees below normal). The maximum temperature was recorded at 15.6º Celsius (five degrees below normal). Dense fog set in around Thursday midnight with minimum visibility reduced to less than 50 metres at the Indira Gandhi International airport.
The situation improved towards the early hours of Friday. However, flight operations got affected to some extent. Trains continued to run late by several hours due to fog. The general visibility was reduced to 500 metres since Thursday night and it began improving only around 7.30 a.m. However, a thick haze hung over the city through the day and shallow fog had descended on the capital by evening.
The weatherman said that dense fog would set in towards late evening.
The peak power demand continued to be high with Friday’s peak demand again crossing 3,900 MW.
The weather conditions are likely to remain largely unchanged on Saturday with maximum and minimum temperatures expected around 16º Celsius and 4º Celsius.
