Coldest day of month at 5.2º Celsius
Delhiites braced fresh winter chill on Wednesday as the temperature in the city plummeted to the season’s lowest at 5.2 degrees Celsius. Earlier, the mercury had dipped to 6.2º Celsius on December 11.
The minimum temperature on Wednesday morning was 3 degrees below normal. The maximum shot up to one degree above normal at 24.4º Celsius. On Tuesday, the minimum was 6.8º Celsius while maximum was 21.7 degrees.
Overnight temperatures have been hovering around 7-8 degrees Celsius for the past fortnight. Despite the fog cover over the city putting visibility at 500 metres, operations at the Indira Gandhi International airport remained normal.
The Met department has predicted maximum and minimum temperatures at 23 and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively, for Thursday.
The lowest-ever minimum temperature for the month has been 1.1 degrees Celsius recorded on December 26, 1945.
