Colombian held for beating NRI
A Colombian national has been arrested by the southeast Delhi police for allegedly assaulting an NRI at M-Block market of Greater Kailash I in southeast Delhi on May 22. The accused was arrested following examination of CCTV footage. He had earlier evaded detection by refusing to go for a medical examination following the incident.
According to the police, Henry Welfardo, in his 40s, was arrested when his involvement became apparent through the CCTV footage. The police had called him for questioning after a few others who were questioned earlier pointed to his involvement. The prima facie evidence showed that he was “the aggressor”, said the police.
The NRI, Barry Wangroo, had approached the Delhi police around 2.30 am on May 23 following the incident around midnight. He told the police that some persons had beaten him up and also banged his head against his car. The police had later registered an FIR.
“During the initial investigations, the accused did not agree for a medical examination. But later got a medical examination done from St Stephen’s hospital,” said Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat. The police suspects that Welfardo refused medical as he may have been under the influence of alcohol.
