Commuters face Games traffic blues
Commuters in the city had a tough time as over 1,500 Blueline buses were taken off the roads to ease traffic congestion for Games. The passengers had to wait for buses and the Metro trains were packed like never before.
There were complaints of low frequency of DTC buses. “The bus frequency on route 970 is 15 minutes. Today I had to wait for more than half-an-hour and when the bus came it was so packed that I opted for an autorickshaw and had to pay `100 to reach CGO Complex from Shankar Road,” said Shveta Sahni, a government employee.
“Usually the Metro has good ridership on Monday, but with the Blueline bus pullout, there was a notable increase in ridership but the exact figures cannot be divulged as of now,” a Delhi Metro official said.
Meanwhile, Delhiites had a harrowing time as the police enforced restrictions on exclusive lanes for Games. It was bumper-to-bumper traffic on the road from the Games Village in east Delhi to various practice venues and many people were seen stuck in their vehicles. Traffic jams were reported at Sarai Kale Khan, the DND flyover from Noida, Mathura Road and Ashram intersection.
