Cong, BJP trade charges, stage protest
The two main parties in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the BJP and the Congress, on Tuesday staged protests at different places on the issue of unruly behaviour and alleged use of unparliamentary language in the House meeting on Monday. While the BJP staged a protest in New Delhi area, the Congress councillors sat on a dharna at Town Hall, the MCD headquarters.
The BJP councillors, who were stopped on their way to the residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, claimed that they were detained by the police and taken to Parliament Street police station. However, the police denied any detention.
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said the comments of the Leader of the Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma targeting Yogendra Chandolia were unbecoming of a senior leader. Mr Gupta further said that Mr Sharma’s behaviour was in complete contrast to the official stand of the Congress party, which claims to be champion of the dalit cause.
Congress councillors, led by Mr Sharma, maintained that the BJP councillors resorted to unruly behaviour during which a Muslim Congress councillor was misbehaved with.
