Contractor held hostage, robbed
A 65-year-old woman and her son were held hostage at their Dayanand Vihar residence by four masked assailants who decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees on Saturday morning.
Police officials said the incident took place at around 4 am when four assailants broke into the 150, Dayanand Vihar residence of Aashish Dhawan, 37, a contractor for Delhi Metro. Aashish was at the residence with his mother Pushpa Devi while his wife and two kids had gone to attend a marriage.
“The assailants first entered the room of Pushpa Devi and took her hostage at gunpoint. Then they went into the room of Aashish and asked him to hand over the keys of the house, which were given to them. The assailants took away their mobiles, disconnected the landline phone connection and locked the mother-son duo in a room. They ransacked the house and escaped with the booty,” a senior police official said.
At around 5 am, Aashish called one of his neighbours, who opened the door and informed the police. A team of cops and crime investigation team from the Anand Vihar police station arrived at the house and recorded the statement of the victims. Forensic evidence was also collected from house.
“The armed assailants took away cash and jewellery worth `7 lakhs. We have collected some evidence from the house and some suspects are being questioned,” the official said.
