Cop’s son held snatching chain on dad’s official bike
The son of a senior sub-inspector with Delhi police’s special branch was caught red-handed using his father’s official motorcycle while committing a daring daylight robbery in Raja Garden on Sunday afternoon with the police suspecting his involvement in other such cases in West Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, 21, son of Jeet Singh, a senior sub inspector with Delhi police’s special branch, said police officials.
Sources said Gurpreet was riding a motorcycle in Raja Garden market on Sunday afternoon when he attacked a woman, identified as Tanupal and asked her to hand over her belongings.
“When the victim resisted, Gurpreet snatched her gold chain. While he was trying to escape on his bike, some locals saw the woman screaming for help and intercepted Gurpreet. He was caught and handed over to the police,” a source added.
“We have arrested Gurpreet and the motorcycle, which belongs to his father, has been impounded. He has been charged under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 379 (punishment for theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code,” said deputy commissioner of police (west), V. Renganathan.
