Cop dies as gun goes off accidentally

In a freak incident, a Delhi police head constable died at the Connaught Place police station here when the service revolver of another cop went off accidentally on Friday at around 11.15 am, the police said. The deceased has been identified as T.P. Illyas, 49, a native of Kerala, residing in Malviya Nagar. He was posted with the armorial team of New Delhi police district and looked after the training of new recruits and maintenance of arms.

“Illyas asked Mohit to open the service revolver when it went off and a bullet hit Illyas in the chest,” said an official. He was rushed to RML Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
