Cops bust ‘escort service’ racket
The special operations squad (SOS) of Delhi police has busted a racket allegedly involved in providing “escort services” to customers in the city.
Police officials said the accused, identified as Raj Kumar Dubey and Syed Gabbar, both 23, were arrested at around 12.30 last night from near a prominent four-star hotel in south Delhi.
The gang used to advertise its services in leading newspapers.
“A team of SOS led by inspector K.P. Singh arrested the two accused. The gang had placed advertisements in all leading newspapers in Delhi and had been active for over an year,” additional commissioner of police (crime) Neeraj Thakur said.
Apart from providing foolproof security for Games, the Delhi police is faced with the challenge of controlling the flesh trade which is expected to boom ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The police said Dubey, a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur, was running the racket by issuing advertisements in the name of “Joya Escorts” and “Monica Massage Services”.
“The accused, Dubey, spent about `15,000 to `20,000 a month on advertisements alone. Our decoy customer contacted him on phone and he was told to deposit `35,000 with `5,000 as advance,” Mr Thakur said.
“When we deposited the money, he was told that a sex worker could be provided to him for his money’s worth. In the garb of escort services, ‘Joya Escorts’ was running a sex racket in the city,” the official said.
Gabbar, a resident of Haryana’s Jhajjar, is Dubey’s associate and allegedly used various aliases while dealing with customers seeking escort services.
