Cops deny nod to Bryan Adams gig
Canadian singer Bryan Adams’ concert in the city came under major trouble and stands a chance of being cancelled as the fire services department has allegedly refused to grant permission for the event scheduled to be held on Tuesday because 10,000 tickets have been sold for the venue that has the capacity to accommodate only 6,000 people.
The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) exhibition grounds in Okhla, the venue for the concert was the third show for Bryan Adams after Pune and Mumbai. The Canadian singer is scheduled to perform in Bangaluru after New Delhi.
Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat stated, “As of now, we have not issued an NOC to the event organisers to conduct the event. We have rejected the application by the organisers.”
“They have issued VIP and complimentary passes also,” an official said while claiming that the police had informed the organisers about the denial of permission on February 10.
Delhiites had lapped up tickets for the concert slated for Tuesday evening at the NSIC exhibition grounds.
“We have stopped the NOC as the local police has informed us that the event organisers have sold tickets beyond the limit, so it would be difficult to manage the event,” said an officer of the Delhi police licensing branch, which is authorised to give the NOC to the event. However, the organisers maintained that the event would not be postponed.
Bryan Adams, known for hits like 18 Till I Die and Summer of 69, has a large fan following and attracted huge crowds at his Pune and Mumbai concerts.
