Cops to get cloning-proof IDs soon
The Delhi police is all set to get the hi-tech and cloning proof ID card, which is being seen as a major security measure for the Commonwealth Games 2010. The first such card is likely to be given to the Delhi police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal next week.
Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat confirmed that the process for procurement of the ID card was going on and will soon be given to the Delhi police personnel. He added that the project has been approved quite early.
In all, well over 70,000 such ID cards are slated to be issued before the Games. A spokesperson for the company, Bilcare Technologies, involved in manufacturing the ID cards claimed that these ID cards cannot be cloned by any technology. “Even the manufacturers themselves would not be able to make a duplicate,” said the spokesperson, adding that any body trying to pass on a similar looking ID card as original will be detected at all the places.
The card, commonly referred to as “biometric card”, is essentially based on nano-technology and will contain all the details about the card holder. The basic details like belt number, designation, year of joining and other such descriptions will be contained in the card.
Although there has been no major case of subversive elements using forged ID cards of the Delhi police, the need for such an ID card was felt after it was found that many of petty criminals were forging Delhi police ID cards and using it for committing various crimes like robbery. With such hi-tech cards, anybody breaching into the rank and file of the Delhi police will be minimal.
