Cops grill girl’s friends for clues

With the investigators failing to make any breakthrough in the teenager’s murder in Dwarka, the police has held three suspects from the national capital and two others from Uttar Pradesh along with some other friends of the deceased girl. The suspects and the girl’s friends are being investigated for their involvement in the case.

Sources said two persons have been picked up by the police from Uttar Pradesh, who are neighbours of the deceased girl and they are being questioned in connection with the case. The call detail records of the duo has been found to be “suspicious”.
The police is scanning the call details of the deceased girl’s friends to identify their location at the time of the incident, which can lead to a breakthrough in the case.
The investigations have revealed that the deceased used to leave her house at night ‘frequently’ and was even advised by the elders against doing so. “It is hard to say whether she was raped or not as there are no injury marks on her private parts. Investigations have revealed that the deceased had not even attended any party. She had gone out with a person known to her and we are trying to identify him,” a senior police official said.
The 17-year-old girl had left her home on December 31 evening and her body was found in a vacant plot owned by Delhi Metro in Dwarka Sector 14 on Saturday. “Her brother has revealed that she used to return home late and he had scolded her for this behaviour. The initial post-mortem report has indicated smothering as the possible cause of death. The autopsy has shown that she didn’t have any food as her stomach was empty,” the official said.
The victim was first strangled with her trousers and then her face was smashed with stones to make the identification difficult. The victim lived with her brother in the servants quarters of Lady Hardinge Hospital.
