Cops to re-question 9 suspects
The south district police claimed to have gained several leads into the gruesome murder of engineering student Shobhit Modi with the investigators deciding to “re-question” at least nine suspects.
Police sources said that most suspects belong to Shobhit’s vast network of friends and acquaintances. The investigators have decided to zero-in on all those he used to hang out with, instead of just his friends.
“We have acquired several leads after questioning his friends but some of those questioned have not provided satisfactory answers. To achieve a breakthrough, we have decided to question them again,” said deputy commissioner of police (south) Chhaya Sharma.
The two weeks of relentless investigations into the murder by eight specially constituted teams, technical assistance from the elite crime branch and the questioning of at least 200 suspects has not led to any major breakthrough in the case with the police still dragging feet to nab the assailants involved in Shobhit’s murder. “Several of his acquaintances, including some juniors in his school, who stay in the same Vasant Kunj block, are under scanner. A young male with whom he had an argument about his girlfriend two days before his death is also being questioned,” said a senior police official.
The investigators have also decided to re-examine the ex-boyfriend of Modi’s current girlfriend who studies in twelfth standard at a reputed school. Shobhit Modi, a second year student at Manav Rachna University was stabbed to death on May 5.
