Cops scan Village after hoax call
An anonymous call received at the police control room on Tuesday afternoon left the security agencies in a tizzy as the caller claimed that a “bomb” has been placed inside the Commonwealth Games Village.
The call was however declared a hoax after it turned out that there was nothing incriminating at the Village and a minor boy, who had allegedly made the call, was detained and questioned by the agencies.
The scare was triggered at around 2:30 pm, prompting a thorough combing operation at the Games’ residential complex in east Delhi, which hosts about 7,000 athletes.
Police officials said dog squads and bomb disposal teams surveyed the 63.5 hectare area, which has 14 blocks, 34 towers and 1,168 air-conditioned apartments. “Nothing incriminating was found at the Village and the call was declared a hoax at around 4.30 pm,” a senior police official said.
