Cops seize more illegally stored crackers in city
The police seized 3,605 kg of illegally stored crackers from three godowns in the city and arrested three persons.
Tarun Kumar Lamba, 28, was apprehended from Tilak Nagar on Saturday following a raid on a godown during which 2,150 kg of crackers worth `30 lakhs was seized.
“Lamba has a book shop at Tilak Nagar. He was motivated by greed as in previous years he had earned a good profit by sale of firecrackers. He had procured the crackers from a wholesaler in Gurgaon and stored it in a rented godown,” said deputy commissioner of police (crime) Ashok Chand.
In another raid, two persons were arrested separately in west Delhi for allegedly storing crackers illegally.
The persons arrested have been identified as Rajeev Sony, 37, and Sunil Khandelwal, 32. Around 405 kg of crackers were seized from Sony and 150 kg from Khandelwal’s shop.
Till date, the crime branch has seized 12,275 kg of crackers worth `1.17 crore and arrested 7 persons while the local police seized 3,765 kg of fire crackers in the past few days.
