Cops take Tunda to his village for terror leads
A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded top Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda to 10-day police custody in connection with a 1997 Sadar Bazar bomb blast case.
Tunda was produced before metropolitan magistrate Akash Jain, following expiry of his police custody in connection with the illegal infiltration case, which send him to remand till September 28.
The Special Cell of the Delhi police, while seeking Abdul Tunda’s custody, told the court that he is a declared proclaimed offender in the 1997 Sadar Bazar blast case, and they need his sustained custodial interrogation to unearth the entire conspiracy leading to the terror attack.
The police said that they needed to quiz Tunda to know about other conspirators who were part of the conspiracy, which led to the blast in which 30 people were injured.
“Accused (Tunda) is remanded to police custody remand for 10 days for his sustained interrogation and for unearthing the links of conspiracy and links of accused with terrorist organisation and financiers as well,” the court said.
Meanwhile, a team of the Delhi police on Tuesday took the Lashkar operative to his native village Pilkhuwa to extract information about potassium dealers who allegedly have links with terrorists.
A source close to the investigation said Tunda was taken to Pilkhuwa after he had revealed during interrogation that he sourced potassium to make bombs from local traders from the area. Tunda, 70, was arrested on August 16.
