Cops thrash men in Metro ladies’ coach
In two separate cases on Thursday evening in Gurgaon and New Delhi, several police and security personnel barged into the first coaches that are reserved for women and dragged out the unsuspecting men and assaulted them. Also in the wake of regular complaints from female passengers, the Gurgaon police has launched a drive to ensure that no male passenger enters ladies’ coach.
In the first incident on Thursday, five-six men were thrashed at the Guru Dronacharya Metro station for travelling in coaches reserved for women. Reportedly, policemen manhandled male passengers. However, Gurgaon police commissioner Surjeet Singh Deswal has denied thrashing. He said, “No Haryana police personnel thrashed any male passenger. After receiving complaints from women passengers that male commuters are travelling in the reserved coaches, we have launched a special drive to check this. The drive will continue for a week”.
He said that police will issue challans to male passengers travelling in female coaches.
In another incident in Hauz Khas station of South Delhi, two youth were arrested for disrupting Metro services after they were asked to vacate the coach reserved for women. According to the police, a group of 30-40 male passengers refused to vacate the reserved coach and two among them came in way of the closing doors. The women passengers present in the bogey objected to this. They were arrested from the spot while others managed to flee.
The arrested persons have been identified as Satish Pandey (22) and Chetan Sachar (33). According to an eye witness, two men were asked to do sit-ups at the Hauz Khas station.
