Councillors want to be paid salaries
With MPs getting a pay hike and Delhi MLAs in the line, the municipal councillors in the capital do not want to be left out. The councillors are demanding fixed salaries as against allowances and perks they get. Unsurprisingly, there was support across the party lines on the issue.
The matter was raised by the Leader of the Opposition in the MCD, J.K. Sharma, who said that the councillors too should get a hike as they were “the first contact” for the people in their areas. Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney told reporters that councillors should get at least ` 10,000 a month. BJP councillor Rajni Abbi also supported the issue.
