Court allows ED to question Desai
A Delhi court has facilitated the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate the former President of Medical Council of India (MCI) Ketan Desai and two others to ascertain the magnitude of the scam and trail of their ill-gotten wealth.
Allowing the plea of special prosecutor of the ED, Naveen Kumar Matta, for interrogation, Special CBI judge O.P. Saini said, “ED is permitted to interrogate Desai, Sukhwinder Singh and J.P. Singh in the Tihar Jail premises by the officers of the department.”
Mr Matta argued before the court that the interrogation of the MCI president and Sukhwinder, a doctor of Patiala-based private medical college and J.P. Singh, an alleged tout, was indeed necessary to unravel the trail of their ill-gotten wealth.
They have been booked by the ED in a fresh case lodged under recently promulgated Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), after it came to light that they laundered money, Mr Matta said.
