Court denies bail to fake KBC caller

A city court dismissed the bail plea of a 50-year-old Allahabad man, allegedly involved in an international racket of cheats who make calls to people claiming to be from Kaun Banega Crorepati and demand money in exchange of huge amounts for winners.

Lok Sabha member Anant Kumar Hedge had filed a complaint saying that his wife got a call on August 15 from TV programme Kaun Banega Crorepati with the caller telling her that she has won `25 lakhs and to collect the amount she has to deposit `15,000 in a bank account.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Gautam Manan noting the information provided by the Delhi police dismissed the bail petition of Mohd Shahid Ansari, 50, a tailor. He sought bail saying he has been made a scapegoat by the complainant and stressed that the agency could not collect any substantial evidence against him during his police custody.
According to the public prosecutor, the accused was arrested on September 8 after a complaint was filed by Mr Hedge. During probe, the police came across more similar complaints of calls from the TV programme and arrested one more person who is allegedly the co-accused.
The police said that it noticed about 50 bank accounts in which suspicious transactions of `5 crores had been made from different parts of the country. All the bank accounts have been freezed.
