Court for probe into illegal hotels
After hearing a complaint filed against two hotels being run illegally in the Karol Bagh area, Tis Hazari Court chief metropolitan magistrate Vinod Yadav took a serious view of the “sordid affair” and favoured an inquiry by the Delhi police commissioner into the alleged illegal running of hotels in connivance with the local police officers. The CMM sought a report within one week.
The court acted on a complaint filed by Devesh, who brought “sordid state of affairs” going on in the area, where admittedly two hotels namely Vishal Residency and Vishal Heritage are being run without any licence or to supply edibles. The court also pulled up the police for failing to pursue the matter i.e. the kalandara (an information to court filed under the Delhi Police Act) in the court, leading to the release of the accused persons on bail with a fine of `50 only.
The CMM observed, “Shockingly, today the investigating officer has brought before me 28 more cases against the two hotels. The cases against the two hotels were prepared between June 1 till October 30, 2010, but never filed in the court. The SHO kept the same with himself for reasons best known to him. His act demonstrates that he is hand-in-glove with the accused persons in running the hotels.”
The court noted three senior police officers, who appeared before it, failed to explain why those cases against the hotels were not pursued. The court also directed that owners of two hotels Vishal Grover, Neeraj Grover and Dheeraj Grover be produced before the magistrate tomorrow and all 28 cases.
