Court pulls up MCD for dismal state of city roads
As the time approaches, it seems that the tall claims of the MCD that they are prepared for the Commonwealth Games fall flat.
It was evident on Monday as the high court has expressed its serious concern over the sorry state of affair of the roads and came down heavily on the civic body for a
llegedly portraying before it a rosy picture of the conditions and failing to maintain the roads in the city causing inconvenience to the public.
Justice Kailash Gambhir said, “Despite various directions given by the court, the picture appears to be more dismal than what is being shown to the court through the affidavits.”
The court added, “Roads have caved in due to waterlogging. Most of the main roads have witnessed long jams bringing the city to a standstill. With the Games in the offing and with this (current) situation, passing the roads would then be kettles of fish for this city.”
The court also made it clear that it seems that the job of road construction is shoddily executed as most of the roads do not even sustain the pressure of one spell of rain and, therefore, after every rainy season, the condition of the roads worsen and they lead to a sorry state. The court said, “Looking at the present state of affairs, the capital of the country with its megacity dream, it seems has an uphill task ahead unless it provides smooth, even and quality roads without any potholes.”
