Court raps police for probe delay

The Tis Hazari Court additional sessions judge (ASJ) on Friday rapped the Delhi police for allegedly failing to submit forensic reports in connection with the cases relating to the 2008 serial blasts in the city and sought an explanation for the delay from a senior police officer.

The court also pulled up the investigating officer for failing to respond to the query of the court as to when the sample was forwarded to the laboratory for taking the opinion.
After seeing that the police failed to submit the forensic report in such a sensitive case like the Delhi serial blasts, the court said, “There seems to be total lack of discipline, coordination and professionalism on the part of the investigating agency. In the facts and circumstances, the court is constrained to issue summons to senior supervisory officer to appear in person to explain the delay.”
The court noted that the Delhi police’s special cell, which probed the five cases registered in connection with the blasts on September 13, 2008, failed to explain as to how much time would be taken to analyse the data with regard to forensic examinations results.
The court pointed out that six months had already elapsed since the voice sample of suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Shahzad were sent for forensic examination after his arrest this March.
It had on September 14 issued showcause notice to the police for its failure to submit the forensic results.
The court proceedings were conducted through video conferencing as 11 out of 14 accused are lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad in connection with serial blasts in that city.
Three accused, Mohd Hakim, Shahzad and Salman, are at present lodged in Tihar Jail.
The serial blasts had claimed 26 lives and left 135 injured in the capital.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
