Court seeks response on accused’s petition
A city court has sought the response of Tihar jail authorities on the plea of the prime accused in the Soumya Vishwanathan murder case, Ravi Kapoor, in which he had alleged that the prison officials were pressurising him to withdraw a complaint against certain officers.
Metropolitan magistrate S.P.S. Laler has asked the Tihar authorities to respond by Monday on the petition of Ravi, who is facing criminal prosecution under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), besides other IPC offences.
In his plea, the accused had submitted that he was being harassed and pressurised by the jail administration, who want him to withdraw the complaint against them. Ravi had alleged that the Tihar jail authorities had levelled false allegations on him that he had attempted to flee from Safdarjung hospital during his treatment following his arrest.
Earlier, a city court had already ordered registration of a case against four Tihar jail officials in connection with allegations made by other accused in the case that they were being harassed in the prison.
Ravi, along with Baljeet Malik, Amit Shukla and Ajay Kumar, had allegedly followed Soumya, a TV journalist, and shot her dead early on September 30, 2008. She was on her way to home from office when the incident occurred.
