Crime rate down during Games: Dadwal
Patting his force for a “commendable job” in the Commonwealth Games, Delhi police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said on Saturday that crime rate has gone down drastically during the Games.
Mr Dadwal, while speaking to reporters at police headquarters, congratulated the capital’s police force for “maintaining security and managing traffic with minimum fuss to deliver maximum results”. “The Games have successfully concluded without any mentionable incident. We had a humongous task at hand and we achieved this task with minimum fuss,” he said.
Quoting official figures, Mr Dadwal said that there was a 46.4 per cent fall in heinous crimes as compared to corresponding period last year. “38 heinous crime cases were reported as compared to 71 last year. In the corresponding period, the incidents of murder fell by 52 per cent, from 19 reported last year to nine this year. Fatal accidents also fell by 47.1 per cent from 70 to 37,” he said.
Mr Dadwal also said that there were “no specific intelligence input” about any imminent terror strike during the Games. “However, we took no chances and foolproof arrangements were made,” he said. Mr Dadwal also said that suspension orders were issued to three head-constables and 22 constables who were found guilty of negligence while on duty.
