CRPF jawan is denied leave, fires in the air
A disgruntled CRPF constable fired a volley of bullets at BJP headquarters in New Delhi district area late on Sunday night.
The incident took place at around 11.45 pm at the entry gate of BJP’s 11-Ashoka Road headquarters. No one was injured in the firing in which 20 bullets were fired in the
air by Shamshad Ali, 24, a CRPF constable, allegedly for not being granted a leave. The accused was also depressed because he was unable to repay a loan taken before his marriage.
Surprisingly, the Delhi police was not even aware of the incident till Monday afternoon when the commandant of F-55 CRPF battalion arrived at Parliament Street police station along with the accused jawan and lodged a complaint.
Additional deputy commissioner of police V.A. Gupta said, “Ali accidentally pressed the trigger of his service rifle and fired 15 to 20 bullets in the air. Prima facie, it appears that he was under depression. He was caught by his fellow CRPF personnel and overpowered following which senior officials were informed and Ali was taken into custody.”
