Customs official rams car, 2 narcotics staffers killed
A customs official driving a car hit three personnel of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday, killing two of them on the spot. One of them is in a critical condition at Safdarjung Hospital.
The incident took place near the office of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security at around 12 pm, said the police. The deceased have been identified as inspector Ram Kumar Meena, 55, and constable Ram Avatar, 50. The deceased and another constable Deepak Thakur, who was injured in the incident, had come to deposit seized opium in a government warehouse near the airport.
They had brought the opium from a government factory in Uttar Pradesh and reached Delhi by a train, said the police.
“They deposited the opium in warehouse and had gone to Mahipalpur to have breakfast. They were returning to the warehouse to complete some formalities when the incident took place,” said the police officers.
“The car was being driven by customs superintendent Sushil Kumar. He lost control over the vehicle and rammed the car into them,” said the police. Meena and Avatar died on the spot while Thakur sustained critical injuries.
The three were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital. A case has been registered.
In another incident, a driver was killed and three others injured in Chirag Dilli early Monday morning when their car hit an electric pole. They were allegedly drunk, said the police.
