CWG: MCD mayor seeks internal vigilance report
MCD mayor P.R. Sawhney has directed the municipal commissioner to submit all the internal vigilance report pertaining to the Commonwealth Games projects to him. However, he maintained that the credibility of the CBI was suspicious and there should be a judicial inquiry into the allegation of corruption.
Talking to this newspaper, Mr Sawhney said that there were reports of an FIR being registered by the CBI in connection with a street lighting project. “The first phase of the tender was awarded at Rs 35 crores, while the second phase was awarded at Rs 42 crores. If we had to jack up the tender prices in the first phase itself, which is under scrutiny, then we could have awarded it at Rs 42 crores in the first phase itself,” said Mr Sawhney.
The mayor added that if the officials were indulging in corruption, they should be brought to book. “However, the CBI functions according to the directions it receives,” said Mr Sawhney. Though the CBI has denied that any FIR has been registered in connection with Games projects, there were reports of bungling in connection with tenders awarded for street lighting project.
Meanwhile, the MCD claimed that all the projects will be completed by August 20. MCD works committee head Jagdish Mamgain said parking facilities in the vicinity of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and at training venue is likely to be completed by August 10. Approach roads of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Thyagraj Stadium, R.K. Khanna Stadium and Chhatrasal Stadium are in progress and likely to be completed by August 31.
