DBCs told to join today or face axe
Even as the MCD has given ultimatum to the striking domestic breeding checkers (DBCs) that they would be sacked if they did not return to work on Thursday, the dengue menace has raised hackles of the MCD as the Common-wealth Games start in 24 days and the disease showing no signs of abating. While it has decided to rope in health department volunteers for generating awareness about the disease, former mayor Arti Mehra has sought the Prime Minister’s intervention suggesting that a dengue task force be set up. Chairman of the MCD’s health committee V.K. Monga said that if the striking DBCs did not return to work by 5 pm on Thursday, their contracts would be terminated.
Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney has taken a tough stand saying that the DBCs would not be allowed to blackmail the agency. The Delhi government has already requested the Army to take care of the operations there as they were “well versed in dealing with flood-like situation”.
The total number of dengue cases in the capital rose to 1,512 with 74 fresh cases reported on Wednesday.
