DDA engineer ‘under pressure to finish VK flats’ found dead
Mystery shrouds the death of a junior engineer of the DDA, who was working on the Vasant Kunj flats project related to the Commonwealth Games 2010. He was found dead on railway tracks near Ghaziabad railway station on July 28 afternoon. While the Ghaziabad police is treating it as a case of accidental death and his family
members have refused to press for any formal charge, his colleagues maintain that he was under depression amid tremendous pressure to meet the deadlines in connection with the project that is currently not in good shape.
It is learnt that Vinod Dhaka, the engineer living in Dwarka, had gone to his office on July 28 from where he left telling people close to him that he was going to Connaught Place. However, he drove all the way to Ghaziabad railway station and parked his vehicle there. Subsequently, he began talking on mobile phone along the tracks towards Delhi. A few by-standers saw him walking dangerously close to the track even as a train from Delhi was fast approaching and warned him to move away. However, he kept walking and was killed under the impact.
Ghaziabad SSP Raghubir Lal, said, “Prima facie, it looked a case of accident and we have had no further complaint of the victim being in any sort of trouble. His family too has not approached us.”
However, a DDA engineer close to the Vasant Kunj project claimed that Dhaka was under stress in the past few days due to tremendous pressure to meet the deadline. “He was under pressure since about a week before the incident. The targets being given in connection with the project were tough,” said an engineer, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
