DDA hires over 100 to guard CWG items

The Delhi Development Authority has hired more than 100 ex-servicemen to take care of various items lying in the Commonwealth Games Village, besides the state-of-the-art sports complex. The external security of the entire Village complex is being taken care of by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

According to DDA sources, at least 117 ex-servicemen have been hired for taking care of the entire complex. These men have been drawn from the director-general resettlement (DGR). Also at least one former junior commissioned officer has been deployed for security purposes on each of the 34 towers as well as the sports complex. They too have been hired from the DGR.
Sources in the DDA said that a large number of items, which the organising committee of the Commonwealth Games could not auction off after the Games, are still lying in the Games village. Some of the major items include the kitchen equipment, costing several crores, that are supposed to be taken care of. Besides the security of the flats, which have been handed back to the DDA, various items are also needed to be taken care of.
“We have to ensure that nothing goes missing from the complex as it will take some time to ready these flats for further disposal,” said a DDA official.
The official added that it would take well over a month before a final decision on auctioning of the first 100 flats is formally taken. The decision will have to be confirmed by the authority and then sent to the ministry of urban development for ratification following which a public notice will be issued.
Meanwhile, work is also on to complete the measurements and preparing of other inventory list so that the Games Village can be given a completion certificate. It has been given only a temporary utilisation certificate for the Games.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
