DDA official, engineer in a war of words
A day after the All-DDA Engineers’ Association went to the press saying that the Vasant Kunj flat projects could not be completed on time, its president was apparently involved in a heated exchange of words with a top official of the DDA. He also had to clarify certain questions in a police station in south Delhi on Tuesday.
It is reliably learnt that association president Param Yadav met one of the members of the DDA at a Games venue, where some mediapersons also happened to reach there. The top official was reportedly angry over the reports that the Vasant Kunj project, pertaining to providing for nearly 5,000 rooms by redeveloping nearly 3,000 flats in the wake of the CWG, will not be completed. The engineers association had issued a statement in this regard on Monday. Following the verbal spat, the top official apparently complained to the police following which Mr Yadav reportedly had to reach Vasant Kunj (south) police station to clarify certain issues. While the top DDA official refused to comment, Mr Yadav also downplayed the row. “The matter has been sorted out,” said Mr Yadav, when contacted for his version.
Sources in DDA said with the Central Vigilance Commission keeping a vigil on the works going in connection with the Games projects, the engineers were wary of compromising with quality in a bid to finish projects on time. They added that the members of the technical wing of the CVC had recently visited the Vasant Kunj site and taken a few samples. They were likely to return a few days later.
