DDA takes over CWG Village flats
Four days after the Commonwealth Games got over and a day after all the athletes and delegates left, the process of handing over of the Commonwealth Games Village back to the DDA began on Monday. The DDA will be taking up possession of around 700 flats out of a total of 1,168 flats, while the rest will go to the private builder EMAAR-MGF for further disposal.
A DDA official said that the process of taking over, which began on Monday, will take some time to complete. The flats will be checked for any damage or other problems, while the furnishings installed by the Indian Tourism Development Corporation will be removed. This will include removal of electronic items like TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines, besides other articles, from the flats.
OC officials said that the dismantling of overlays was in all likelihood to be completed by the month-end. The flats will then be locked and kept that way until DDA disposes them of. A decision on the mode of disposal was yet to be taken, said DDA officials.
Also, some problems that had occurred in the basements of several towers in the Village will also be looked into and rectified. Following heavy rains and prolonged floods, the basements of the towers had got waterlogged and there were reports that sub-soil water had seeped-in into the second level basements.
