Deadline is extended till Aug. 31
With the Delhi government and the civic agencies failing to complete construction work and remove the debris by Tuesday, which was the earlier deadline for removing construction debris, a new deadline of August 31 has been fixed. Meanwhile, the Delhi government said that debris could not be cleared as the civic agencies, including the NDMC and the MCD, have not been able to complete their works.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that since construction was going on, removing the debris completely was not possible. The chief minister also requested the media to give a real picture about the preparations for the Games. A senior Delhi government official said that the deadline was extended following requests from agencies like the MCD and NDMC.
The two agencies have, however, been maintaining that other agencies, most of which were related to laying of cables and shifting utilities, were causing delays.
