‘Delhi master plan 2021 to be revisited’
Union urban development minister Kamal Nath on Thursday said that Delhi Master Plan 2021 would be revised next year. The minister said that it was due to “irrelevant” planning that illegal colonies have proliferated in the national capital.
“Around 50-60 per cent of Delhi Master Plan is irrelevant,” said Mr Nath, while adding that due to this, several illegal colonies have come up in the city.
The minister reasoned that the plan needs to be drafted keeping in mind the ground realities.
Mr Nath was speaking here at a function to inaugurate an automated multi-level parking lot in Sarojini Nagar market area.
Mr Nath mentioned that Delhi’s infrastructure is bearing the brunt of progress and development leading to a situation where the capacity appears to have been exhausted.
The Union minister also indicated that the Delhi Special Laws Provision Act would be extended with suitable modifications to safeguard interests of genuine persons.
