Delhi may get London-type open bus
Delhi is likely to get an open top bus service as in London and Paris. The tourism and transport department is planning to run open top buses to promote tourism in the national capital.
According to a senior government official, a team is collecting data from certain areas of Delhi to launch the bus service.
“We already have a tourist bus service with the name of Hop on Hop off (HOHO). The open top bus es will be launched on the same plan,” said a senior government official.
However, there are certain problems in launching such bus service in the city, the official said further.
“Many areas have low height foot overbridges, some areas in central Delhi have a web of overhead wires, besides branches of roadside trees are also a hurdle. These buses will not be like the double decker buses. They will be designed as per the criteria of the city. The buses will be low-floor and their height will be less to avoid any problem to the tourists,” he said, adding that the plan will be to ply open top buses only on select routes to connect historical monuments.
“The routes are likely to be limited to south, central and north Delhi and will cover the important tourist spots,” he added.
