Delhi police guidelines for taxi operators

The Delhi police said that drivers of cabs and radio taxis should carry a valid driving licence from any state government. In addition to this, the cab provider agencies should assure that the drivers are hired for the job only after the police verification is complete.
An official of Meru Cabs, when contacted, claimed that the drivers are hired for the job only after they under go the police verification.
A radio-taxi service provider said, “We keep the original identification proofs of the drivers with us, then only we let them drive our cars.” The police official pointed that in case of violation, the culprit can be booked under Section 188 of IPC.

Victim’s mother collapses, rushed to hospital

The grief-stricken 46-year-old mother of the Delhi gangrape victim collapsed on Sunday and was rushed to a hospital here where she was treated for “grief effect” and discharged in the evening.
Doctors at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi confirmed that the woman underwent through check-ups and was doing “completely fine” now and left for home on Sunday evening. The woman went unconscious for some time in the morning after the cremation of her daughter, whose body was brought in the early hours.
A senior doctor at DDU hospital said the woman was brought to the hospital at around 8.10 am and was rushed to the emergency department where she was treated. The doctors describe “grief effect” as a medical term for patients who suffer from grief and anxiety.
“Once she was brought to the hospital, the woman was thoroughly checked. We performed CT scan and other diagnosis on her. She is completely fine now and was discharged in the evening,” Dr S.P. Barua, medical superintendent of the hospital, said.
He further added that the woman was frail and was not able to bear the loss of her daughter. “It also looks like she had not had proper food for the past 10-12 days and she is very weak,” the doctor said. A doctor said the victim’s mother must have been disturbed for the past couple of weeks.
