Delhi richest state in nation: Sheila

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said that Delhi is the richest state in the country. While launching the Delhi Statistical Hand Book of year 2013, she claimed that the book reflects a “vibrant” capital city.

“Delhi is the richest state in country with the per capita income of `2,01,083 during 2012-13. It has increased by `27,397 in comparison to 2011-12. An amount of `6,65,679 crore was deposited in 2,847 branches of various banks in Delhi till March 31, 2012. This reflects prosperity and sound economic situation in the capital city because of proactive economic policies of the Delhi government,” she told reporters here.
The report says that Delhiites consumed around 2.55 crore cases of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL or branded alcohol), country liquor and Indian beer during 2012-13. There are 150 cinemas theatres and multiplexes in Delhi offering 514 average shows per day with 1.07 lakh persons watching movies.
Despite of the poor condition of water supply in many areas across the city, the government report boasts it as the highest in the country.
“The per capita consumption of water in Delhi is 49 gallons per day with 15,42,825, metered and 4,38,791 un-metered connections. The generation of water in Delhi was 847 MGD in 2013, highest in the country,” the report says.
The report also praises the DTC bus service, various schemes of Delhi government, electricity supply and other services and facilities in Delhi which are known to have not being up to the mark.
