Demand for 85% seats in DU for city students
Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel on Friday led a protest sit in to demand 85 per cent reservation for students of the city in admissions to Delhi University colleges.
Under the aegis of Lok Abhiyan, Mr Goel brought in a number of students and their parents to press for reservation in seats in the Delhi University colleges by stating that the number of applicants far exceeded the available seats in Delhi University.
He demanded that 85 per cent reservation for students hailing from the city be introduced in 18 Delhi government supported colleges under the Delhi University.
Mr Goel claimed that two Delhi school associations have also come forward to support his reservation demand.
The BJP leader said that Delhi State Public School Management Association president R.C. Jain in a statement observed that around two lakh students have passed Class 12 in the city this year but since seats in all the colleges in Delhi were much less many students would fail to get admissions.
“The Delhi University Students’ Union has also become active on the issue. Dusu president Manoj Chaudhary has also issued a statement asking for reservation in Delhi government colleges,” Mr Goel added.
“Since the 18 colleges of Delhi government get 100 per cent grant in aid from Delhi government, 85 per cent seats should be reserved for Delhi students as is the case of Delhi Technical University colleges, the Delhi BJP leader added.
