UP demands Rs 100cr to ensure water
The Uttar Pradesh government has raised a demand of Rs 100 crores to ensure that the off-take point at Bhagirathi from where water comes for Sonia Vihar water treatment plant is not disturbed due to the upper Ganga Canal Expressway, which will connect Greater Noida with Hardwar.
Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta will soon meet his Uttar Pradesh counterparts to amicably resolve the issue. Mr Mehta on Tuesday held talks with senior officials of the Delhi Jal Board on the issue.
“The feasibility report of the proposed construction of the expressway is being done. The Uttar Pradesh government led by the BSP has informed that the expressway will cut through the point from where Delhi gets water for its Sonia Vihar treatment plant. Now, to leave that point undisturbed, the Uttar Pradesh government is proposing to construct an elevated stretch, which will cost Rs 100 crores. The Delhi government is being asked to bear the cost for the elevated stretch,” stated a senior official.
